SOLEDAD, Calif. — The superintendent of the state Correctional Training Facility at Soledad apparently shot himself in the head and remains hospitalized, officials said Monday.
“He is still alive, but other than that we cannot provide any specifics,” said Lt. Ken Hansen of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department.
He said an investigator had been sent to the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital to talk with doctors about the condition of Alan Stagner, 49, superintendent at the prison.
