Esperanza’s Golfers Second at Monterey

Esperanza High School finished second to Westlake in the two-round Western States Invitational golf tournament Tuesday at the Rancho Canada Golf Resort in Monterey.
Brett Brummett of Huntington Beach had the best second-round score at 72, but finished sixth among the individuals with a two-round total of 154. Jimmy Chang of Westlake was the top individual at 146, followed by Mike Suckling (Torrey Pines), Charlie Wi (Westlake) and Pete Avery (Carmel) at 148.
Huntington Beach finished fifth in the 11-team tournament that featured the top high school golfers in the state.
