A fund-raising effort to benefit the homeless has been announced by Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich and building industries leader Nathan Shapell. The new nonprofit organization, Building a Better Los Angeles, already has pledges of $400,000 and plans to raise several million dollars this year, Shapell said. A committee of leaders from the building industry and city, county and homeless organizations will raise money for job training, loans and child-care services for homeless people, particularly families.
