N.Y. Surgeon Leaps to His Death

NEW YORK — A senior surgeon at New York Hospital, apparently despondent over a divorce, plunged to his death today from his Manhattan apartment in what police said was a suicide.
The body of Dr. William Grafe, 57, landed in the courtyard of the building at 16 Sutton Place. A police spokesman said “notes were left behind.” New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center spokeswoman Myrna Manners said Grafe’s death had nothing to do with recent criticisms charging the hospital mishandled the medical treatment of pop artist Andy Warhol and Libby Zion, the daughter of writer Sidney Zion.
