‘AIDS: Going to Extremes’
Once again columnist Cal Thomas (Editorial Pages, May 7), “Fight AIDS With a National Health Card,” has stepped from the closet to offer his erudite counsel. The proposal he suggests is epic in proportion and no doubt humanitarian in intent, but there are a few problems.
What about those unlucky souls who receive a false positive from their tests? And why not tattoos instead of cards? Cards are too easily lost or destroyed. No, Thomas needs to do more research in this area.
But his proposition certainly has merit. I submit to Thomas that I will accept his idea if he accepts mine: a national registration of political and religious fanatics. After all, ideological zealots have probably taken more innocent lives than AIDS ever will.
