Daniel G. Aldrich Jr., chancellor emeritus of UC Irvine and acting chancellor of UC Santa Barbara, was undergoing intestinal surgery during the night for removal of a malignant tumor. The surgical operation was to have been completed during the day but was rescheduled, a spokeswoman for Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara said. Aldrich, 68, was admitted to the hospital Monday.
