A 7-year-old Whittier boy whose ear was surgically reattached after a dog bit it off and swallowed it was released from the hospital. Brandon Olivas’ return home came just two days after he was attacked by a German shepherd and Doberman pinscher belonging to a neighbor. The dogs were killed by animal control officers and the intact ear was retrieved from the Doberman’s stomach. Animal control officers said they do not know why the dogs attacked, but no charges were filed against their owner. A spokeswoman for the hospital said it will be at least two weeks before doctors can determine whether the reattachment was successful.
