CYCLISTS WARM UP FOR MOTOCROSS

More than 1,000 competitors from around the nation turned out for last-minute laps Friday at Irvine’s Bicycle Motocross track in preparation for the sixth annual World Cup of Bicycle Motocross.
The riders are divided into 54 amateur classes and five professional classes, who will compete for $30,000 in prizes.
The National Bicycle League-sanctioned national event will take place today. The Vision Street Wear World Cup of BMX will take place Sunday and will be taped for an hourlong TV show to be shown in August.
Bicyclists Friday practiced on varied terrain at the track as fans and relatives watched jumps and practice racing.
The track is on Jeffrey Road, just north of its intersection with Alton Parkway in Irvine.
The races are held annually in different parts of the country.
