Valhalla, San Pasqual Honored for Excellence

Valhalla and San Pasqual high schools were honored this week by the San Diego Hall of Champions for all-around excellence in athletics among San Diego County schools for the 1986-87 academic year.
Valhalla won the Don Clarkson Award for the best boys’ athletic program, after winning San Diego Section 3-A titles in water polo and wrestling. The Norsemen also won Grossmont League titles in water polo, cross-country, soccer, golf and tennis and tied for the league championship in wrestling. La Jolla finished second in the competition for the Clarkson trophy, and Vista, which won the award last year, placed third.
San Pasqual received the Jerry Anders Memorial Award as the county’s top girls’ athletic program for the second straight year. The Golden Eagles were section 2-A champions in cross-country and soccer and won Avocado League titles in cross-country, basketball, soccer and swimming. San Pasqual also shared league championships in volleyball and track. Poway placed second in the girls’ competition, and La Jolla was third.
