Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir said his four-nation African tour had promoted diplomatic contacts with black African countries preparing to resume official ties with Israel. Speaking in Ivory Coast before flying home, Shamir said “there is no doubt” that more countries will establish ties with Israel after his visit. His tour of Togo, Cameroon, Liberia and Ivory Coast highlighted Israel’s efforts to nations severed diplomatic relations during the 1973 Arab-Israeli War.
