Santa Monica : Auto Sales Tops in Spending

Automobile sales and services represented $420 million of Santa Monica’s $1.3 billion in retail sales for 1986, the largest share of any category, according to a market study of 45 Southern California communities conducted by the publishers of the United Yellow Pages.
The study, recently made public, showed the city’s food-store sales totalled $151 million and expenditures at eating and drinking establishments totalled $149 million.
The survey showed a median age of 35.5 among Santa Monica’s 92,113 residents.
