DISTORTED DEMOCRATS

Once again Howard Rosenberg has used his acid-tongued wit to completely distort the benefits to the viewers of a public service broadcast (“Candidates’ Forum--Big Talk on Little Screen,” July 3).

If the candidates were not entertaining or good enough to anchor the evening news--so what? It is important that the voters get to see as much of them as possible in a debate forum. They are all different, with some differences in their opinions on how to rectify the mess that Ronald Reagan’s Administration has effected.

As citizens we should try to see beyond the “sexy” approach used by the more relaxed communicator among the candidates and look to the issues they advocate.

We have had enough of great communicators. Now we need substance in a president. And we need critics like Rosenberg to treat this and future debates with more than a frivolous review.
