Crediting its acquisition program and increased sales, Hycor Biomedical Inc., a Fountain Valley distributor of laboratory supplies, Thursday reported a second-quarter profit of $153,000, in contrast with a loss of $59,000 the prior year.
Revenues for the period ended June 30 were $2 million, a 25% increase over the $1.6 million recorded in the prior-year quarter.
For the first six months of the year, the company had profits of $190,000 contrasted with a loss of $94,000 the year before. Sales were $3.6 million, a 9% increase over the $3.3 million recorded a year ago.
Richard D. Hamill, chief executive and president, attributed Hycor’s recent performance to a plan that was put into effect three years ago. “Our plan was to grow from a research company to a fully integrated clinical laboratory products company,” Hamill said.
Hamill also said the company has created a new division, Hycor Instruments, to manufacture and market a new line of automated chemistry systems.
