When baseball fans sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” this week, they won’t mean just any ballgame.
Their attention will be on major league baseball’s 54th All-Star Game, taking place Tuesday in the Oakland Coliseum. Top players from the National and American leagues will meet in the annual midsummer classic, and NBC will provide live coverage starting at 5 p.m. on Channels 4, 36 and 39.
Marv Albert and Bob Costas will host a pregame show, with Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola taking over the microphone when the game starts.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers (represented by pitcher Bob Welch on the cover) also will be seen on the tube this week. Sunday, they’ll play the Chicago Cubs in an 11 a.m. telecast on KTTV Channel 11. On Friday, they’ll meet the Pittsburgh Pirates in a game to be carried at 7:35 p.m. on Dodgervision cable.
The Dodgers have one more July telecast (July 31, vs. Atlanta) on KTTV, leading into 12 TV games scheduled for August against Cincinnati, San Francisco, Montreal, Philadelphia and New York. There are also a dozen more Dodgervision games on tap.
