China will buy Chrysler Corp. car-making equipment. The machinery and technical help from Chrysler Corp. would help produce up to 300,000 engines a year for light trucks and automobiles. First Automotive Works of Changchun will make a one-time payment for design and manufacturing technology and 48 “major pieces of machinery,” and will pay a royalty on each four-cylinder engine produced. First Automotive Works will build a new plant to manufacture the Chrysler engines and plans to begin producing them in 1989.
