Beverly Hills : Ex-Mayor Jack Freeman Dies

Jack Freeman, who served on the City Council from 1958 to 1962 and was the city’s 15th mayor in 1960 and 1961, died Sunday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after suffering from cancer. He was 77.
During his tenure on the council, Freeman was instrumental in the creation of the city’s Planning Commission and its acquisition of land for public parking, said Fred C. Cunningham, city director of public affairs.
A Beverly Hills resident since 1938, he served as president of the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce and the Beverly Hills YMCA. He was also an active member of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, the American Red Cross and the United Jewish Welfare Campaign.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Hillside Memorial Park Chapel in Los Angeles. He is survived by his wife, Sara, two children, David and Gail, and seven grandchildren.
