New Solutions Needed for Garbage Crisis

I have recently moved to Diamond Bar and am very pleased to see the dedicated and intense environmental concern displayed by the large public opposition to the proposed Spadra garbage burner as a solution to the problem of too much garbage. However, in all of the discussion in the media I have found a glaring omission.

Of all the people and organizations opposed to the garbage burner, none have voiced the preference and scientific backing of a viable, economic alternative. If we now ignore the problem, the cost to dispose of our garbage will surely go up, and more costly alternatives will become necessary. But we have an opportunity to combine our efforts to find a viable solution at current costs.

Let’s use the engineers and other professional people and all of the resources of this large, unified opposition to come up with a better solution. In the process we will do our communities a greater favor by ridding ourselves of the problem instead of only a bad solution to the problem.

So please, let’s not be satisfied with just fighting off this bad idea, let’s go after the real monster . . . the problem.
