Van Nuys Gains World Series Berth in Babe Ruth Play

Two home runs by Chris Vasquez highlighted a nine-run inning that propelled the Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Babe Ruth League all-star team past Oakland, 26-15, Saturday and into next week’s World Series.
The victory gave Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks (10-0) the championship of the Pacific Southwest regionals, held in Taylorsville, Utah. The team already had won district and state titles.
Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks was trailing, 9-8, when Vasquez led off the fifth ining with a home run. Kevin Milligan followed with a home run and later in the inning Vasquez added a two-run shot that gave his team a 17-9 lead.
