The California Arts Council, following recommendations of its advisory panels, awarded $215,228 to 11 Orange County arts groups at a meeting Friday in Sacramento.
Recipients and grants: South Coast Repertory, $63,077; Newport Harbor Art Museum, $37,375; Opera Pacific, $24,000; Orange County Philharmonic Society, $22,207; Pacific Chorale, $11,275; South Coast Symphony, $9,890; Laguna Art Museum, $7,500; Grove Theatre Company, $5,980; Relampago del Cielo, $2,424; Laguna Poets, $1,500.
Pacific Symphony was awarded $30,000, or $2,537 less that it received last year. The Santa Ana-based organization had originally applied for $103,000 on the basis of having a $1-million-plus operating budget, but an advisory panel reclassified the orchestra, since, according to the council’s method of accounting, the budget fell below the necessary level to be considered for more than $50,000.
