Work has begun on the $23-million Cabrillo Marina Center, a hotel and commercial project on Via Cabrillo Marina near Whalers Walk in San Pedro.
A 226-room Compri Hotel, described as the first such resort facility in San Pedro, and three other buildings housing offices, retail shops and restaurants are planned by the developer, Marina Cabrillo Co., San Pedro. The firm is a partnership composed of Abel C. Galletti and his brothers, Joseph and Sebastiano, together with Edward J. Miller, all long-time area residents.
The complex will be built on land owned by the City of Los Angeles under a 50-year lease.
Los Angeles-based California Coast Development Co. is contractor, and San Pedro-based Landmark Realty is exclusive leasing agent. Architects for the hotel and three-story office building are the Nadel Partnership and Abraham Shapiro, both of Los Angeles. Architect for the two-story retail building and restaurant is David C. Towbin & Associates, Calabasas Park.
