Local News in Brief : Library Back in Business

The Lincoln Heights branch of the Los Angeles Public Library will reopen today after its closure for damage inspection in the aftermath of the Oct. 1 earthquake, county library officials said.
Structural engineers inspected the branch, located at 2530 Workman St., and determined that it could safely reopen. But four other branches, also closed for damage inspection, “won’t reopen soon,” library spokesman Robert G. Reagan said.
He said a determination has to be made “how and if” those branches will be repaired. Still closed are the Junipero Serra branch in South-Central Los Angeles, the Malabar branch in Boyle Heights, the Robert Louis Stevenson branch in Boyle Heights and the Wilshire branch.
