Local News in Brief : 5 Hurt When Shelves Fall

Five employees were injured, one seriously, when a wall of newly installed shelves and heavy files collapsed at the South Bay Municipal Court annex in Torrance.
Small Claims Supervisor Betty Yenny suffered a broken knee and rib in the Thursday afternoon accident and was reported in fair condition Friday at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance. Four other clerical employees suffered cuts and bruises when the shelves collapsed without warning.
It took more than 15 minutes for bailiffs and sheriff’s deputies to pull all of the workers from under the fallen shelves and files, court Administrator Chris Crawford said.
