A transient was arrested Sunday morning in connection with the death of Chester Cody, 73, who was assaulted at a bus stop last week, San Diego police reported Monday. On Nov. 1, Cody and his wife were sitting at a bus stop in Hillcrest when Cody was punched in the eye by a man who had asked them for money, said San Diego Police Sgt. Anne O’Dell. On Nov. 2, Cody lapsed into a coma and was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he died Nov. 3. On Sunday, police arrested Dewayne Whitfield, 27, who was booked into County Jail on suspicion of murder.
