Santa Fe Springs : Shopping Center Plans OKd
- Share via
The Redevelopment Agency has approved plans for a nine-acre shopping center to replace the failed Whittier Downs Mall on the southeast corner of Washington and Norwalk boulevards in Santa Fe Springs.
Hopkins Development Co. intends to demolish all existing buildings there and build the 110,000-square-foot Santa Fe Springs Marketplace. The center will be anchored by a Ralph’s supermarket and a Thrifty drug store, said Bob Orpin, acting planning director.
A Thrifty store is among a few businesses still open along the Norwalk Boulevard side of the mall. The rest of the property has been fenced off.
Orpin said work on the project is expected to begin in January.
