An apparently armed man escaped with several thousand dollars after robbing a Sanwa Bank in the 18000 block of Culver Boulevard at noon Monday, police said.
The suspect approached a bank teller with what appeared to be a handgun under his blue V-neck sweater, Irvine Police Lt. Mike White said.
White said the suspect then ordered the teller to place cash in a handbag before fleeing. No one was hurt during the robbery, and it is unknown whether the suspect ran off or fled by vehicle.
White described the suspect as an unshaven white man in his 30s, with shoulder-length brown hair. Based on descriptions from witnesses, the suspect is believed to be about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and to weigh 165 pounds, he said.
