A 30-year-old construction worker was electrocuted when the crane he was operating snapped a pair of 12,000-volt power lines Tuesday, sending a charge through the truck and into his body, authorities said.
Steve Alan Koon of Garden Grove was delivering a load of dry wall to an apartment construction site at Garnsey Street and Washington Avenue about 9 a.m. when the accident occurred, said Maureen Thomas, spokeswoman for the Police Department.
Koon, an employee of the Oxnard Building Materials Co. of Santa Ana, died 40 minutes later at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, she said.
A co-worker at the construction site received minor burns on his right hand when he tried to pull Koon from the truck after the power lines fell, Thomas said.
About 1,500 customers lost electrical power in the the area for almost half an hour after the accident, a utility spokesman said.
