- KGTV-TV (Channel 10) last week became the first television station in San Diego to offer live, closed-captioned news to the deaf and hearing-impaired.
As of Jan. 18, Channel 10 has been closed-captioning its “10 News Evening Edition” newscast, which airs each weekday at 6:30 p.m., in cooperation with the National Captioning Institute.
San Diego County’s estimated 133,000 deaf and hearing-impaired residents can receive the nightly newscast by attaching an adapter to their television sets.
Closed-captioned newscasts are offered by only a few TV stations across the country.
