Los Angeles Women’s Foundation Announces Grants to Local Charities

The Los Angeles Women’s Foundation has awarded 21 grants totaling $33,800 in its second round of allocations to charities serving women and girls.
The Hacienda-La Puente Unified School District got the largest grant, $5,000, for a project to help women in jail maintain contact with their children.
The Harriet Buhai Center for Family Law in Los Angeles got $4,675 to help poor women and teen-age mothers with legal matters.
Women at Work in Pasadena, which helps low and moderate income women get into the job market, received $4,000 to help women get jobs in high-tech industries.
The Los Angeles Women’s Foundation is one of 42 such funds across the country addressing the “gender gap” in philanthropic support between charities helping men and boys and those helping women and girls. Since its formation in 1985, the foundation has raised $225,000 from 260 women, men and couples, director Elizabeth Bremner said.
