Bankrupt John Connally has shot a television commercial touting a Houston savings and loan. “Nellie (his wife) and I worked hard all our lives to make sure our future would be financially secure,” Connally says in the ad for University Savings Assn. “Well, the future is here and things haven’t quite worked out like we’d planned. But that’s all right because there is no better place than Texas to start over and to save a little something--because you never know what the future might bring.” The former Cabinet member and Texas governor last week auctioned off $2.6 million worth of personal belongings to help pay his multimillion-dollar debts.
