The San Francisco Symphony canceled last weekend’s visit to Shanghai due to an epidemic of hepatitis-A in the Chinese city. “We just kept getting more alarming information about the epidemic and decided that it would be wise to avoid Shanghai,” said Peter Pasterich, the orchestra’s executive director. The symphony was scheduled to arrive in Shanghai, one of San Francisco’s sister cities, on Saturday and perform there on Monday. Instead, the orchestra returned to San Francisco from Tokyo on Saturday.
