Financier Carl C. Icahn, Texaco’s largest shareholder, has been talking with Britain’s Hanson PLC about making a friendly joint offer for the oil company, unidentified sources have told Reuters. Icahn previously has said in documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission that he was considering talking with others about a bid for Texaco but this is the first time the Hanson name has come up. A Hanson spokesman refused to comment.
