Irvine Mayor Hopes to Be First Elected to Job

Irvine Mayor Larry Agran, who now holds the post because he was selected by fellow council members, said Friday that he will seek to keep the job by running in the city’s first direct election for the post, in June.
Others who have taken out nominating papers for mayor, according to city clerk spokesman Rob Zachary, are Hal Maloney, Barry Hammond, John Coleman and Anthony Radovcich.
Should Agran be elected to a two-year term in June, he would have to give up his council seat.
Zachary said council candidates who have taken out nominating papers are Michael Shea, Paula Werner, William A. Bloomer, Sydney Warburton III, Sally Anne Miller, Jacques Warshauer, Michael S. Duffy, Cameron Cosgrove and George E. Mertens.
