Friday the 13th was almost over when luck turned bad for four men playing blackjack at Fantasia, a Northridge nightclub that police said was the site of illegal gambling.
Two undercover Los Angeles police detectives broke up a card game about 11 p.m. Friday and issued citations against four customers accused of gambling. Police also cited the card dealer and Richard Zellner, the general manager of Fantasia, Sgt. William Flores said.
The citations could lead to fines of up to $1,000 and six months in jail.
About 300 people were turned out of the packed nightclub at 19470 Nordhoff St., and the blackjack table, chips, cards and more than $300 in cash were confiscated as evidence, Flores said.
Zellner denied gambling had taken place and said the game was not played for money. He said the dealer and blackjack table were supplied by Casino Concepts in West Hollywood.
The company has provided the game nightly for Fantasia for a year and a half without prior incidents, said Travis Lehman, president of Casino Concepts.
