NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone, speaking Saturday at a conference on Japanese influences on America, urged the United States to continue a tradition of openness in economic and cultural arenas.

Nakasone, speaking later at a news conference, specifically condemned the trade bill now pending in Congress and endorsed President Reagan’s promise to veto the legislation.
