Evans Sets Two High School Records

Janet Evans of El Dorado High School set national high school records in the 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle Saturday night in the Southern Section 3-A finals at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach.
Evans, a junior, had a time of 2 minutes 0.72 seconds to break the 200 individual medley record of 2:01.88 set by Karin Werth of Mission Viejo in 1983. In the 500 freestyle, Evans swam a 4:37.30, breaking the record set by Mission Viejo’s Kim Brown (4:40.04) in 1985. Evans holds world records in the 400-meter freestyle, 800-meter freestyle and 1,500-meter freestyle.
