A group of dissident shareholders failed to gain control of American Republic Bancorp at the company’s annual meeting. Shareholders of the Torrance-based parent of Republic Bank elected four directors from the management-supported slate to the seven-member board. The other three directors elected came from the dissident wing, but the wing failed to elect two other members of their slate and gain control of the board. The dissidents, led by board members Wilbur R. Hunter, Robert L. Jones and Frank E. O’Bryan, had sought a change in management at the company.
