The Soviet Union wants to open a trade office in Seoul soon after the Olympic Games in the South Korean capital, according to a Korean electronics company executive.
Koo Yong-su, a senior official at Goldstar Co., told reporters that I. T. Kanaev, vice president of the Soviet Chamber of Commerce, told him of the plan. Koo recently attended an electronics exhibition in Leningrad.
South Korea has no diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union, and trade between them is conducted through third countries.
The Soviet Union and most of the other allies of communist North Korea have said they will send athletes to the Games, to be held from Sept. 17 to Oct. 2. South Korean government officials have said that Seoul wants formal trade ties with Moscow and hopes that the Games will help break down trade barriers.
