Four women snuck into the British Broadcasting Corp.’s studios Monday night and disrupted the BBC’s main evening news with shouts and screams. “I do apologize if you’re hearing quite a lot of noise in this studio at the moment,” anchorwoman Sue Lawley told millions of viewers all across England. “I’m afraid we have rather been invaded by some people who we hope to be removing very shortly.” The four women were described by Reuters as lesbians protesting legislation that banned public support for plays or educational programs that portray homosexuality in a positive light. Three months ago, three lesbians protested against this same law by sliding down ropes into the sedate chamber of the House of Lords, shouting: “We’re gay and we’re proud.”
