Democrat Michael S. Dukakis, taking time from his presidential campaign to tend to his duties as governor of Massachusetts, met briefly with the president of Iceland on Monday in Boston.
Dukakis was photographed in his office with President Vigdis Finnbogadottir, who delivered a commencement address at Smith College on Sunday. Finnbogadottir was on a promotional tour of the Boston area.
Aides to Dukakis described the meeting--one of several between Dukakis and visiting foreign dignitaries over the past 14 months--as a courtesy call. The governor and the president spoke in private for about 15 minutes, according to Dukakis Press Secretary James Dorsey.
