Prep Baseball Roundup : Fullerton Ends Hart’s Streak, 12-7

Colin Milligan and Steve De Phillips each had three hits and two runs batted in Tuesday to lead Fullerton High School to a 12-7 upset of previously undefeated Hart of Newhall in a Southern Section 4-A second-round playoff game at Hart.
Hart, champion of the Foothill League, finished the year 26-1. Fullerton (20-7), champion of the Freeway League, advanced to Friday’s quarterfinal game against Covina.
Fullerton, which had 17 hits, knocked out Hart starter Chris Matkin (8-1) with a 5-run second inning. Hart ace Jason Edwards gave up 4 runs and 8 hits in 4 innings of relief.
Fullerton sophomore right-hander Rene Arias, coming off a no-hit victory over Leuzinger in the first round, allowed 5 earned runs and 6 hits in 4 innings and improved his record to 9-1.
In a 5-A game, Beverly Hills scored seven times in the fifth inning and held on to defeat top-seeded El Dorado of Placentia, 13-11, at Beverly Hills.
Michael Moore had a two-out, two-run, single to key the rally that advanced Beverly Hills (18-8), the third-place representative from the Ocean League, into Friday’s quarterfinal game against Nogales. El Dorado (23-4), champion of the Empire League, allowed 23 runs in two playoff games.
