China Nets Japanese Butterfly Smuggler

BEIJING — Police in the southwest China province of Yunnan caught a Japanese trying to smuggle 816 butterfly specimens out of the country, the New China News Agency reported.
Hiroyuki Wakahara, who engaged local people to catch butterflies for him, was fined $842, and his equipment was confiscated, the agency said Saturday. Foreigners may not collect, catch or buy China’s fauna and flora without official permission.
