Edith Mayer Goetz, 82, wife of the late movie producer William Goetz and daughter of the late film mogul Louis B. Mayer, died Friday at her home in Los Angeles after a lengthy illness.
She and her husband--renowned for their distinctive dinner parties for Hollywood’s elite and their collection of Impressionist art--prompted director Billy Wilder once to say:
“The highest accolade for someone coming into this town was to be invited to the Goetzes. The Goetzes had the best food, the best people and the best things on the walls.”
Mrs. Goetz leaves her daughters, Judith Shepherd and Barbara Windom, and six grandchildren.
There will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Jules Stein Institute are suggested.
