Convicted rapist Lawrence Singleton apparently has chosen to settle in the Tampa, Fla., area but may have violated a Florida state law, authorities said. Free after being paroled in California, Singleton, 60, was issued his driver’s license last week and listed a permanent address in Florida, officials said. “I don’t know anything about it,” the home’s owner told a Tampa newspaper. Officials of the state Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles alerted the sheriff’s office that Singleton, who grew up in Tampa, received a driver’s license. Authorities said Singleton appears to have violated a state law requiring felons to register with the local sheriff or the state Department of Law Enforcement within 48 hours of arrival in a county.
