‘Cavanaughs’ Series to Return to CBS Lineup

“The Cavanaughs,” a comedy series that had a short run on CBS during the 1986-87 season, will return to the network with original episodes beginning Aug. 8 at 8:30 p.m.
The show, which stars Barnard Hughes and Christine Ebersole in the story of an Irish Catholic family in Boston, was canceled at the end of the 1986-87 season, then revived as a midseason replacement for the 1987-88 season. But CBS kept it on the shelf throughout the season and finally decided to play it off amid summer reruns.
