Health Cuts

I was really disturbed and upset when I read the article (Metro, July 15) about the decision by the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors to close outpatient programs at seven mental health clinics (due to lack of funds).
I and my husband represent many of the mentally ill who you don’t hear about. We are not the street people or the ones in board and care facilities, although I have lived in those. We are the ones who benefit most from the clinics. We are recovering, and we take medicine to stabilize our conditions. We are among those struggling to rebuild our lives by trying to work or going to school.
I shudder to think what these closures will do to the overloaded county system. It is hard enough to get into a county hospital when you need one now. We need our clinics to stay well.
