Kassebaum Not Interested in Spot on GOP Ticket

NEW YORK — Kansas Sen. Nancy Landon Kassebaum, often touted as a possible GOP vice presidential candidate, said Sunday that she is not interested in the job and does not “wish to be considered.”

The two-term senator, daughter of 1936 Republican presidential nominee Alfred M. Landon, rejected the political speculation about her on NBC’s “Meet the Press” when she was asked: “Do you want the job?”

“No,” she replied.

“Are you ruling out (if Vice President George Bush) calls you and says, ‘Senator, Nancy, I need you?’ ” she was asked.

“I don’t expect him to call,” the senator said. “I have really indicated that I don’t believe I’m the right balance for the ticket and I don’t wish to be considered.”
