Frank V. Meehan, who served as Redondo Beach police chief from 1975 to 1983, has been appointed chief of the 61-officer department in El Segundo, City Manager Fred Sorsabal announced Wednesday.
Meehan has served as El Segundo’s interim police chief since March, when then-Chief Raymond W. Lewis was demoted to his previous position of captain after an investigation of his management. City officials have declined to release details of the investigation. Before leading the 103-officer Redondo Beach department, Meehan, 60, served as Chino’s police chief for eight years. He has also held law enforcement and public safety positions with Los Angeles County and the federal government.
Meehan, who lives in Torrance, holds a master’s degree from USC in public administration. He will be paid $71,849 a year.
