First Interstate Bank Corp. has signed a lease for 150,000 square feet of office space in Maguire Thomas Partners’ Library Tower, the 73-story skyscraper that will be the tallest on the West Coast when completed late next year.
The bank holding company will take the entire two top floors of the building at 633 W. 5th St., and also six lower levels. It will be renamed First Interstate World Center.
The space will house the company’s worldwide headquarters, now in the fire-damaged First Interstate Tower. John Gray, head of First Interstate’s real estate division, said the decision to move was made before the May blaze at the company’s facility at 707 Wilshire Blvd.
First Interstate will move into the new building in April, 1990, but will retain at least 50% of the space in its present building.
