Southeast : Car-Pool Lane on 91 Freeway Open 24 Hours
- Share via
An experimental car-pool lane added more than three years ago to the eastbound Artesia (91) Freeway to relieve rush-hour traffic has been converted to a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week operation, state Department of Transportation officials have announced.
Previous hours for the commuter lane had been 1 to 8 p.m. weekdays. On other times, it was used as an emergency lane.
The lane extends eight miles on the eastbound Route 91 between Central Avenue in Compton and the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Cerritos.
The lane is designed for buses and vehicles carrying two or more passengers.
Caltrans is considering converting the westbound emergency lane to a car-pool lane. This could occur by next summer, officials said.
