Sri Lanka Rebels Kill 9

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — Eight Sri Lankan soldiers and a police officer were killed Sunday in an ambush by Tamil guerrillas in the northern Vavuniya district, police said. The rebels, fighting for a separate state in northern and eastern Sri Lanka, used mortars and small arms in the attack at Cheddikulam, officials said.
